Step 6: Witnessing – Living and Sharing the Good News

Key Verse:
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden" (Matthew 5:14 - NIV)

From the start of this journey, we’ve followed a clear path, emphasizing key principles that lay a solid foundation for Christian discipleship. We begin with the decision to walk with Christ and develop intimacy with Him. Once that happens, it makes sense that this person will see their relationship with God—His Kingdom in their heart—as the pearl of great value (Matthew 13:45-46) and be willing to let go of anything in the way. But they can’t do it alone, so we discussed the Holy Spirit’s role in this process. Finally, we highlighted the centrality of faith and its ultimate outcome: obedience.

Now, we’re ready for the next step—witnessing. We are called to witness Jesus through our lives. The more transformation we experience through the previous steps, the more effective our testimony will be. It’s not just about talking about Jesus but living in a way that reflects His presence in us. We are called to be salt and light in the world, which means we are living proof of God’s Kingdom. We are those who have passed from death to life. And this new life should be worth sharing—it should be good news, the gospel.

We can live this out in every area of life—personal relationships, family, work, ministry, volunteer service, and more. The Holy Spirit will guide us in what we are called to do. For example, this website is something we do to serve God’s Kingdom and fulfill this calling.

What Is a Testimony?

A testimony is the practical expression of our faith. It’s how we live out and share the gospel through our actions, words, and attitudes. Jesus said:

"Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16 - NIV)

Why Is Our Testimony Important?

Beyond the fact that we are called to be witnesses of Jesus (Acts 1:8) and not just members of a religious congregation, it’s important to understand how our testimony affects our spiritual lives:

  • It glorifies God: When we live according to His will, we reflect His glory to the world.

  • It impacts lives: Our testimony can be the way others encounter Jesus.

  • It confirms our faith: The way we live proves that our faith is real and transformative.

How to Witness Effectively

Here are some practical tips for being an effective witness of Christ:

  • Live the gospel: Be an example of love, integrity, and compassion in every area of your life.

  • Share your story: Tell others how Jesus changed your life. A personal testimony is powerful and authentic.

  • Love people: Show genuine care for others without judgment.

  • Rely on the Holy Spirit: He empowers us to witness with boldness and wisdom (Acts 1:8).

A Practical Example

Jesus told His disciples:

"You will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8 - NIV)

The early Christians took this mission seriously, and the gospel spread throughout the known world.

Reflection Question

"How can you be a more effective witness of Jesus in your daily life?"

Closing Prayer

Lord, help me to be a faithful witness of You in everything I do. May my life reflect Your love and grace, and may I share the good news of Your Kingdom with those around me. Amen.
